Muse Yarns & Arts was established in 2002 in the picturesque city of St. Helena in the heart of the Napa Valley. Each day knitters, non-knitters and passersby are attracted to the vibrant colors and textures of the shop's unique selection of hand-dyed silk, wool, cotton, alpaca, and ribbon yarns. Additionally, the shop features vintage linen pillows, buttons, hand-sewn bags, and flea market finds fill the shop windows of this intimate shop.
Proprietor Michele Laurence, uses skills aquired in her former career as a decorative artist to influence her selections of yarns, knitted sample pieces and decorative accessories. Knitting has been a passion for Michele for over 25 years and serving as a unique outlet for her artistic expression. "I like to encourage people to work with their hands," says Michele. "To me there is nothing more satisfying than being part of the creative process."
Michele's grandmother was an avid knitter and her mother is a renowned decorative artist and teacher. "I was encouraged at an early age to not only appreciate the arts but to become an active participant in them as well."
Because of its unique location, Muse attracts a broad range of knitters from all over the globe. Even with differences in language visitor find the appeal of fibers and the timeless beauty of knitting is universal.
